Patricia Ann Puchinger Ludtke went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2014, after a courageous battle with appendiceal cancer.

Pat was born in Charleroi, Pennsylvania on October 30, 1937, to August Joseph and Josephine Margaret Liebl Puchinger. She spent her childhood in Pennsylvania until age five, when her family moved to Greenville, Ohio. After graduating from Greenville High School in 1955, Pat attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

In 1961, Pat moved to Houston, Texas. Two years later, she married Alfred W. Ludtke and became stepmother to Al’s three children. Her family grew by one in 1967, when she gave birth to a daughter.

Pat and Al owned Southwestern Distributors, Inc., a warehouse equipment distribution company, for 20 years. She served as a Girl Scouts of the USA leader, a Volunteer in Public Schools worker and a League of Women Voters coordinator. In addition, she was the first female president of Houston’s Barkley Square Civic Club.

In 2002, Pat moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, where she served several terms as president of the Carita Sunday School Class. With compassion for the sick and homebound, she began the First Baptist Church Prayer Blanket Ministry. To date, nearly 200 handmade lap blankets have been distributed in Corpus Christi and across the country.

Pat enjoyed gardening and had a gift for growing numerous varieties of plants and flowers. She also enjoyed cooking and took great pleasure in preparing delicious meals for her family and friends during the holidays.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children: Missie (Mike) Bailey, Wally (Joan) Ludtke, Jerry (Linda) Ludtke, and Anne (Hank) Schrader; her grandchildren: Ryan Bailey, Mindy (Tom) Dahl, Lance (Elaine) Ludtke, Kelly (Matt) Byerley, and Amber (Cody Thomas) Ludtke; and her great-grandchildren: Dalton Andrews, Dustin Andrews, Nolan Ludtke, Lissie Byerley and Sam Ludtke. She also is survived by her friend and Mike’s mother, Glenda Bailey.

At Pat’s request, memorial donations may be made to the Prayer Blanket Ministry at First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, 3115 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas 78404 or to Lung Cancer Research at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, with Dr. Steve Hartwick officiating. A luncheon reception in Hereford Parlor will follow the service. Private family interment will take place at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
